July photo challenge on Instagram (Giveaway)

July Photo Challenge

In an attempt to take more pictures, because I’ve been a slacker lately, I made a little Instagram photo challenge for July.

I’ve done a few of these before and not only did they inspire me to take more creative, thoughtful pictures, but it helped me see my everyday life in a new way. Plus, having all of the pictures I took during those months was so valuable.

This is super easy… and fun. If you’re on Instagram, repost the picture of the prompts (there’s a picture of them on my Instagram account) and then get started tomorrow, posting a picture for the first prompt and including #bellingFAM and tagging me, if you’d like. I usually also use the prompt of the day on my pictures, or hashtag it, for example, for the 1st, I’d do #morning.

I have no idea if some of you will follow along, but (NEW RULES!) for each day you participate, you’ll get an entry into the giveaway drawing at the end of the month. To be entered, you must follow bellingFAM on Instagram and you must tag #bellingFAM in your pictures. One winner will win $20 to Printstagram, where they can print their pretty Instagram photos. I love their 4×4 square photos, but they also have cute magnets, photo books, and even posters.

If you’re a private Instagram user and would prefer to stay that way, there’s an option for you to show me your photos at the end of the month. We can chat about that later.

Happy clicking!

Psst! Giveaway provided by bellingFAM.

Reading list: Goodnight June by Sarah Jio (Giveaway)

Goodnight June by Sarah Jio

// This giveaway has ended. Please click HERE to see the winner on Rafflecopter. //

First of all, how much do you love this book cover? (I adore it.)

I’ve been anxiously awaiting Sarah Jio’s latest book, GOODNIGHT JUNE, which debuted this week, making it perfect for keeping me company while I’m laid up in bed recovering from having my tonsils removed. (Don’t mind that I can only read for about 10-seconds before all of these pain meds force my eyes closed!)

The way Sarah writes always enamors me. I fall in love with her characters, as flawed as they may be, and love how she connects the present with the past, linking in a bit of historical fiction throughout each novel in a new and interesting way.

Can’t wait to dig into your latest and greatest, Sarah!

And, of course, there can’t be a new Sarah Jio novel without a giveaway… The winner is free to pick a paperback copy or a Kindle edition.

Can’t wait for the giveaway to end to get your copy of GOODNIGHT JUNE? I confirmed that they do carry it locally at Village Books in Fairhaven (Sarah is a WWU alum!) or you can grab it on Amazon.

You can find Sarah Jio on her website, SarahJio.com, as well as on her author Facebook page and on Instagram, where she documents her life as an author and mom of three cute little ones.

The House on Fremont Street: nousDECOR (Giveaway)

// This giveaway has ended. Please click HERE to see the winner. //

You know that I’m already a heavy Pinterest user, right? Obsessive might be a better word. Especially as we’ve been pulling the details of our new house together, my Pinterest boards have kept me organized and sane, as I pull ideas, inspiration photos and products for each room.

However, as much as I love Pinterest, sometimes, it leaves something to be desired. I don’t claim to be anything close to an interior designer. Sometimes, I play one for work (my special talent is sourcing the perfect products), and I certainly know what I want and like for my own home, but that’s as far as I can go. In addition, I try to stay as far away from scary editing photos, like Photoshop, as possible, so pulling together those gorgeous pin-worthy interior collages that you see on design blogs is way out of my league.

Enter nousDECOR(you say it “new” decor, in case you were wondering…)

The newest online design tool on the block, nousDECOR is like a cheat sheet for those of us who didn’t exactly attend design school, but who want to create spaces in their homes that look like we did.

The main feature of nousDECOR is being able to take a picture that inspires you, for your own home, and to pull products, straight from the extensive catalog on nousDECOR, to create a custom moodboard.

Here is an image (on the left) that I pinned to my Pinterest account long, long ago, for living room inspiration, and the moodboard that I created on nousDECOR to create a similar look:

nousDECOR on bellingFAM

If you click through on the image above, you’ll see that when you’re on the moodboard, you can click on each product I chose, which will take you to the website where you can buy it. For example, if you can’t live without that rug (which everyone and their MOTHER has right now!), click on it, read more about its details from nousDECOR, then click on the BUY button. Easy as that.

nousDECOR Products

One of my other favorite features is that as you pull products for a room on your moodboard, it keeps a running total of how much the design elements you’ve picked will cost. If you look above, you can see that these products are at around $1650.

Isn’t this cool? You really just have to get onto nousDECOR and play around to get the feel of it!

There are a million amazing features built into nousDECOR, but here are some of my other favorites…

  • See a room that you love on nousDECOR, but it’s about 900 times out of your budget? Click on the moodboard, then click on each item and use the “SAME LOOK, DIFFERENT PRICE” button to search for similar items at different price points.
  • Have a room that you love but can’t find the products to recreate it? Have a couch that you can’t seem to find the perfect rug for? Try nousDECOR’s SEEKING HELP feature. You can upload a photo of what you need help with, then put it out there for the nousDECOR community to give you feedback, including their in-house designers and Chief Designer, Mark Cutler.
  • For those of you who fill your homes exclusively with “flash sale” decor (such great deals on those sites!), but you get tired of hunting and hunting and hunting through them to find what you’re looking for, as you’re creating your moodboard, click the SHOW FLASH SALE FIRST button to give you products straight from all of those sites. There is also a SHOW DIY FIRST button for products that you can easily recreate at home.

Okay, honestly, the best thing to do is to jump on to nousDECOR and play around. There are so many cool, thoughtful features and it’s SO EASY to use. I can’t emphasize that enough. Plus, it’s fun!

To get you started on nousDECOR, they are hosting a giveaway for one of the stores where you can pull products on nousDECOR, as you create your moodboards… and one of my personal favorites for home decor, Anthropologie(I used to work there. I was awesome at folding the bedding. Seriously.) One bellingFAM reader will win a $100 gift card for Anthropologie.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day weekend

Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all of you sweet moms! I hope you feel loved and appreciated this weekend…

I just came from the Mother’s Breakfast at Everett’s preschool and apparently I have a knack for farming. Nothing like seeing yourself through your 4-year-old’s eyes for a little self-reflection, right?

Here’s what happened on bellingFAM this week:

// We had a huge discussion on Facebook about the top 17 selling items at Trader Joe’s. I added some new to-buy items to my list for next week after hearing what you love to buy!

// Construction started at our house and, I’m grateful to say, that it’s almost done.

// My first Stitch Fix box arrived and I shared what I sent back and what I kept.

// And, after seeing how popular the review was, I added a giveaway for a $25 Stitch Fix gift card. It’s still going!

// Everett’s room was revealed, including his feature herringbone wall. Thanks for all of the positive feedback… I’m glad you think it’s as cool as we do!

(see you next week! come say hey on instagram over the weekend! xoxo.)

Mom Style: Stitch Fix Giveaway

Stitch Fix on bellingFAM

I’m regretting not keeping this shirt…

// This giveaway has closed. The winners have been announced HERE on Rafflecopter. //

The response to my Stitch Fix review was overwhelming this week! I was so excited to hear from those of you who are already Stitch Fix fan and to answer some questions from those who were thinking about trying it.

After chatting a bit with the Stitch Fix team, I’ve decided to giveaway a $25 Stitch Fix gift card, which means that you can basically try Stitch Fix without paying a dime… unless you want to purchase something from your fix, of course! And, if you do, that $25 will go towards whatever pieces from your fix you fall in love with.

Skip Hop Duo Diaper Bag

bellingFAM Approved: Skip Hop Duo Essential Diaper Bag (Giveaway)

// This giveaway has closed. The winners have been announced HERE on Rafflecopter. //

When the team at Skip Hop offered to send me a diaper bag, I laughed at first, because I’ve never been a diaper bag mom. I’ve always been a “throw some baby stuff in my gigantic purse” mom. But, having just hauled a million kid-supplies all over town, ruining the handles on one of my favorite purses thanks to the weight, I thought twice about accepting their generous offer.

Skip Hop at the Zoo

at the woodland park zoo. LOVE those stroller clips!

Plus, how could I resist that cute chevron striped pattern? (I’ve been known to have a bit of an, um, chevron addiction.)

You know where this story is going, right? I feel in love with the bag they sent me, one of the classics from Skip Hop, their Duo Essential Diaper Bag.

Skip Hop at Seahawks Parade

This bag has gone everywhere with us and it withstands the test of three kids, a mom who refuses to carry a diaper bag and all of our crazy adventures. I love that I can sling it over my chest to keep it secure and out-of-the-way when we’re truckin’ it through downtown Seattle or if I have to carry a kiddo to the car. I love the little zippered pockets at the top of the bag that are handy for stashing wet socks from jumping in puddles. And, I really love the built-in Shuttle Clips that allow me to clip it to the handle of my BOB stroller, while still giving me access to the bag.

Skip Hop at Swimming

Of course, the sweet people at Skip Hop want to give one bellingFAM reader their own Skip Hop Duo Essential Diaper Bag (in chevron!) to fall in love with! (seriously, they are so kind.)

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your support. Yes, you. While I’m still figuring out what’s working and what isn’t here on bellingFAM, thank you for sticking it out, for chatting on the bellingFAM Facebook page, for sharing bellingFAM with friends, and for leaving comments on the blog posts. Skip Hop Stroller Handle

bellingFAM Approved: Skip Hop Walk-Along Stroller Handle (Giveaway)

// This giveaway has closed. The winners have been announced HERE on Rafflecopter. //

File this under: Things I wish I had when our kids were small.

When Skip Hop sent me the information about their newly released Walk-Along Stroller Handle, I practically did a little mama dance in my office. Which is Starbucks in Barkley Village. Which would have been awkward. For everyone.

We are on our way out of the stroller phase. Our beloved BOB collects dust on our deck most of the time, as Everett is beyond needing a ride when we go exploring. We do hang-on to it for some of our bigger adventures, especially ones with crowds or if we’re bringing a lot of extra gear with us, but I know that our stroller days are numbered. It’s bittersweet.

Skip Hop Stroller Handle

As a mom of three who were all quite small at one time (Janie was 5 and Meg was just 21-months old when Everett was born), I would have given up at least a week’s worth of lattes to have one of these handles. I can’t tell you how many times I had tricky moments juggling Baby Ev in the stroller, with little Janie and little Meg gripping the sides of the BOB as we conquered the hustle and bustle of downtown Seattle or crossed insane intersections through crosswalks that seemed miles wide. Having a designated spot on the stroller where they knew they could hold on and where I knew they would be holding on, would have been priceless.

I particularly love Skip Hop products because they have the reality of life with kids in mind. Not only are their products reasonably priced (the Walk-Along Stroller Handles retail for $8 each), but they also think about the little things, like how to keep them clean (you can pop these handles on the top-rack of your dishwasher!).

Big hugs, Skip Hop! We adore you and your awesome new Walk-Along Stroller Handles!

Reading list: REAL HAPPY FAMILY, A NOVEL (Giveaway)

Real Happy Family Cover

// This giveaway has closed. The winner has been announced HERE on Rafflecopter. //

When TLC Book Tours asked me to review one of their latest books, REAL HAPPY FAMILY, by Caeli Wolfson Widger, the email exchange went a little something like this:

Them: “Are you interested in reviewing a book that is focused around pop culture and reality TV?”

Me: “Hold on, let me turn down the Real Housewives of (Insert Favorite Bravo Franchise Here).”

In all honesty, once I dug into REAL HAPPY FAMILY, it wasn’t quite what I expected. Reading about pop culture and reality TV seems like it would be a pretty cushy gig, but this book is much darker and grittier than those topics let on.

The story follows a family, mainly a mother and a daughter, who are trying to survive in Hollywood, eventually ending up on an intervention-style reality TV show… which kicks off in a Reno hotel room, of all places.

I’m still finishing up the last few chapters of REAL HAPPY FAMILY and while it took me a few chapters to pull the story together, the characters kept me going. I loved that this wasn’t a fluffy-take on reality TV or a profile of a “struggling” actress. It feels real and borderline scandalous in a man-behind-the-curtain way, without being sensationalized with the glitz and glamour of typical celeb-fiction reads. To top it all off, it’s smart and witty, in all of the right places. My favorite.

There were times when I had to put it down to take a break from the almost painful family interactions. I felt as if I were peeking straight into the lives of Lorelei and Colleen, like I was watching them on Real Happy Family (the reality show they land on) myself, rather than reading a piece of fiction.

I’d certainly recommend REAL HAPPY FAMILY, especially if you’re a self-confessed reality TV junkie, like me. (I have no shame.) Your secret is safe with me. Looking forward to seeing how it all wraps up… I still can’t tell if there is a happy ending in the works or if this family will dive right into tragedy, yet again.
